  Signs of Stroke & Heart Attack

Recognize a Heart Attack:

• Chest discomfort (pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain
• Pain in arm, shoulder, jaw or between shoulder blades
• Shortness of breath.
• Sweating, nausea, lightheadedness.
• Severe feeling of heartburn or indigestion.

Treatment:

• Keep the victim calm, have them lay down.
• Call 911 immediately
• Patient’s who have been prescribed nitroglycerine tablets or spray; help them take their medicine.
• Monitor pulse and breathing.

Recognize a Stroke:

• Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side. (Can be both sides).
• Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding.
• Sudden blurred or dim vision.
• Sudden trouble walking or dizziness.
• Sudden severe headache.

Treatment:

• Keep the victim calm, have them lay down.
• Call 911 immediately- treatment is available for some patients suffering stroke, within a 3 hour period of onset of signs of stroke
• Monitor pulse and breathing.
